#OnThisDate in 1955, the CBS television show "Sergeant Preston Of The Yukon" debuted. The program follows a Canadian Mountie named Sgt. Preston who patrols the wilds of the Yukon with his horse Rex and faithful dog Yukon King, battling both the elements & criminals. Ray's very first hit single (or an "almost hit" as he now refers to it) of the same name was released later in 1960 and was about the show. It even included Ray barking and howling as Preston's dog! Today would have been the birthday of the amazing Andy Williams! Ray appeared on The Andy Williams Show several times and that's what led to The Ray Stevens Show being its summer replacement in 1970. Also, his brother, Don Williams, was Ray's manager for many years.
