Balancing Rock, also known as Coyote Rock, formed when ice age glaciers melted creating ancient lakes which later receded to leave behind thick exposed layers of sand, silt, and clay. Over thousands of years, wind, rain and freeze-thaw cycles slowly carved them and created these hoodoo structures. A harder boulder settled on top of a stronger pocket of sediment, protecting it being completely eroded away. The softer material around it continued to wear down
