The literature regarding lung ultrasound for diagnosing pneumonia is beset with all types of difficulties. 2. Defining a gold standard is a real problem if it is anything other than what the CXR says. Of course this would guarantee that nothing could be better than CXR. 3. Defining a gold standard by chart review and clinical follow-up is equally problematic.
