This fortepiano is Beethoven's last grand piano, which he played in his flat in the Schwarzspanierhaus. The fortepiano comes from the workshop of the Viennese piano maker Conrad Graf. Graf lent Beethoven the four-course instrument in January 1826. After Beethoven's death in 1827, the instrument was returned to Graf. The lower keys of the fortepiano are covered with ivory, the upper keys with ebony. The body of the fortepiano is made of spruce and oak veneered with mahogany. The keyboard range is
