On this day in 1921, the Bluenose won its very first race. The famous ship, both a racing and a fishing vessel, was built in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and nicknamed “The Queen of the North Atlantic.” Today, Canadians will recognize the Bluenose from its engraved location on the back of the dime.
