With three decades spent at Sony, Shuhei Yoshida is a genuine veteran of the games industry, which lends this specific theory a little more credibility. But as he’s quick to specify, this isn’t insider information; it’s just a theory.

It is one of the biggest conundrums in the video game industry: why hasn’t Sony followed up Bloodborne with… anything? A remaster (Sony loves a remaster)? A sequel? A next-gen update? Fans of FromSoftware’s PlayStation 4 masterpiece have begged for more ever since the game launched to critical and commercial acclaim a decade ago. So, what gives?

And is that after its release in 2015, and its subsequent expansion, The Old Hunters, if it has come to be considered a new installment, a PC version, or a remastering, none of them has come to see the light. Yoshida is clear about why this is, but also specifies that this is only his opinion, not an absolute certainty.

Sony has had no problem remastering games for PS5, whether that's Demon's Souls at launch or even The Last of Us: Part II Remastered last year. However, Bloodborne continues to go untouched and still hasn't received a PC port. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has a theory about why that might be.
