The Trump administration is rapidly canceling hundreds of grants, in the most aggressive attack yet on American science.

Although university researchers don’t believe the change itself poses a clear risk to the scientific review process, ongoing chaos at the agency is fueling a degree of skepticism.

The proposed centralization of grant review is not yet final, the NIH said, as it is still under review by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Management and Budget.
