A World War II veteran discovered a Japanese flag while he was fighting in the Battle of Okinawa, and recently traced it back to the owner's family.
This flag belonged to Japanese soldier Masamoto Abe during World War II. It was taken after his death by Allied soldiers and has been kept in the Gold Bar Veterans of Foreign Wars hall for many years.
This is the second Japanese battle flag donated to the detachment, and is reportedly the only museum in the country to feature two such flags. “It’s emotional to have it in Upland,” Miller said.
