SEATTLE — Cinco de Mayo may be a bigger deal in the U-S than it is in Mexico, but Fonda La Catrina owner Enrique Trejo is not letting a celebration of Mexican culture pass by without offering customers a chance to try authentic cuisines from various parts of his home country.

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Mexico, but not as widely as in the United States. In Puebla, the day is observed with military parades, battle reenactments and other events. In other parts of Mexico, it is not as widely celebrated.

Cinco de Mayo, celebrated on May 5, commemorates Mexico’ s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It has since become a vibrant celebration of Mexican heritage and culture in the United States, featuring parades, music, dancing, and traditional foods like tamales and mole.
