Smoke from hundreds of wildfires in Canada has choked the skies over dozens of northern U.S. states in the Great Lakes and Northeast regions.

The wildfire areas of Manitoba and Saskatchewan are projected to receive 50 millimeters to 100 millimeters of rain this weekend into early next week. That amount of rain converts to two inches to four inches of rain. Two to four inches of rain will do a lot to extinguish a wildfire.

Fire officials with the Rocky Mountain Area Complex Incident Management Team have combined the Lee and Grease Fires to be called the Lee Fire, which has burned over 13,000 acres.
