Human remains were found Wednesday night in a Malibu home destroyed by the Palisades Fire burning near the Los Angeles County coast. A missing persons report led authorities to conduct a welfare check at the home near Pacific Coast Highway and Las Flores Canyon Road.

During a wellness check in the Pacific Palisades, deputies discovered what they believe were human remains. A woman set on fire inside a New York City subway has raised questions about how a world traveler and former Merck employee ended up homeless and burned on a train.

The Palisades Fire has grown to nearly 20,000-acres, while fire officials estimated that more than 5,300 structures have been destroyed by the blaze. The previous destruction estimate was 1,000+ structures burned.
