Paris Saint-Germain, who won the UEFA Champions League to cap their season earlier this month, kicked off the FIFA Club World Cup in strong fashion Sunday at the Rose Bowl in front of 80,619.

The best teams in the world will be in the United States this summer as the FIFA Club World Cup will bring teams from reigning Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain to the only amateur side in the competition in Auckland City FC from New Zealand.

Philadelphia will host the first of its eight matches in the FIFA Club World Cup on Monday, when Brazilian club Flamengo and Tunisian side Esperance Sportive de Tunis come to town for a group stage game. It will, as is expected, herald both excitement and controversy.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, two of the best clubs in the world, are showing their early dominance at the tournament. Meanwhile, some non-European squads, like Brazilian club Palmeiras and Botafogo, are putting up strong performances to open the group stage.

The summer of soccer will take a new look this year with the FIFA Club World Cup, which comes to the U.S. for the first edition of the expanded competition that will see 32 teams from around the world compete for a share of the $1 billion prize purse.

The Club World Cup is still awaiting its first goal in group A after Palmeiras and Porto mirrored Al Ahly and Inter Miami’s result from the opening night by drawing 0-0. A night after Lionel Messi’s Miami were held by the Egyptian champions it was the turn of the team who have won the most titles in Brazil and one of Portugal’s leading clubs to play out a draw.
