Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has officially overtaken both of its predecessors at the global box office to become the highest grossing film in the trilogy.

As for Paramount’s super Sonic, it’s now set a new record as the franchise’s highest-grossing title with $420M global through Sunday, besting the $405M of Sonic 2. Of that, $203.5M is from 64 offshore markets. The holdover drop was 36% internationally this session, during which it added $15.2M from 64 offshore markets.

In a press release, SEGA announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog film series has now hit the $1 billion milestone in global revenue.
