After weeks of refusing to answer the question, the White House on Tuesday revealed the identity of the Department of Government Efficiency's acting administrator, a little known former healthcare technology consultant named Amy Gleason.

Amy Gleason is the acting administrator of the US DOGE Service, the agency that houses the temporary Department of Government Efficiency, a White House official told CNN on Tuesday.

The White House claimed that a former adviser in the U.S. Digital Service, not Elon Musk, is actually in charge.

Elon Musk’s threat to federal employees is the latest episode to call into question the White House’s downplaying of his authority.

Before the weekend, the White House felt confident that coordination had been improving between senior staffers and Musk, two of those people said.
