Jerry Jones’ rapport with the Dallas Cowboys reached an all-time low when he announced the appointment of Brian Schottenheimer as head coach, replacing Mike McCarthy.
“Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant,” Jones said, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. “He ain’t Brian no more,” Jones puzzlingly added. “He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.”
Former Bengals and Rams standout Andrew Whitworth recently gave his thoughts on Dallas’ head coaching move, reliving some of his past meetings with Schottenheimer in the NFC West. Whitworth suited up for the Rams while Schottenheimer was calling offensive plays in Seattle from 2018-20.

Schottenheimer began his coaching career back in 1997 when he landed an assistant position with the St. Louis Rams. Over the years, he has served on the coaching staff for teams such as the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and several others.

For Cowboys officials, Schottenheimer became the logical choice regardless of what others thought because of the continuity he brings to the position. Schottenheimer joined the organization as an offensive consultant in 2022 and served as the team’s offensive coordinator for the past two seasons.
