Providence Health & Services in Oregon warned striking nurses Thursday that their health insurance will expire at the end of the month if their walkout continues. The strike, which began Jan. 10, has now lasted 36 days and involves nearly 5,000 nurses at all eight Providence hospitals across the state.
The contract, essentially the same as what was put forward in December, offers no changes to wages, paid time off or safe staffing ratios.
Nurses would be paid more and receive compensation for missing breaks under a tentative agreement reached by Providence Health & Services and the Oregon Nurses Association that could end a six-week-long strike.
