Longtime racer Martin Truex Sr. dies
As a reserve driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, Truex has to be ready for anything. "It's about knowing all the plays," he said.
Simply put, he was our hero and a great man. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers and ask for privacy at this time.” Truex Family PR - Speedway Digest Staff - January 17, 2025
Martin Truex Jr. will attempt to qualify for the 2025 Daytona 500 with Tricon Garage as he runs select races in the NASCAR Cup Series this year.
Martin Truex Jr. will have to earn his way into the Daytona 500. Former NASCAR champ will drive a Toyota for Tricon Garage with Joe Gibbs' help.
Two 150-mile qualifying races set the field for the Daytona 500 on Thursday, Feb. 13. The first duel will set the order of the inside lane behind the pole sitter, while the second duel will set the order of the outside lane. (E.G., Duel No. 1 winner will start third, Duel No. 2 winner will start fourth, etc.)
Martin Truex Sr., the father of NASCAR racers Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Truex, has passed away at the age of 66. A statement from the Truex family confirmed the passing of the former racer.
Tricon Garage will field the No. 56 car for Truex as the NASCAR Truck Series team will enter its first Cup Series race. Truex, 43, retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2024 Cup Series season but had said that he wanted to run the upcoming Daytona 500.
Truex must either post a fast speed in qualifying or secure the transfer position in his qualifying race to claim a spot in Daytona.
