The arctic blast and the possibility of snow set to come to Central Texas has cold weather preparation underway for residents, school districts, and city officials.

The Texas Department of Transportation said its crews will begin to pre-treat major roadways and elevated surfaces ahead of wintry weather conditions around San Antonio this weekend.

The Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo District announced that crews began preparations for this weekend's forecasted winter weather event by applying brine to roadways across the district earlier this week.

NTTA and TxDOT have begun putting down a saltwater mix called "brine" on streets and major highways to help prevent ice from sticking on the roads. TxDOT treated elevated surfaces, which are known to freeze first -- especially the big interchanges in North Texas.

In preparation for the incoming winter weather that's expected early next week, the TxDOT Waco district has announced that their crews will be getting together this weekend to apply brine to state roads in counties within its jurisdiction.
