Presumptive Big Ten favorite Ohio State returns to the field this weekend in another early non-conference matchup against Marshall in college football’s Week 4

After a week off, the Ohio State Buckeyes continue their less than imposing non-conference schedule with a date at home against the Thundering Herd of Marshall.

Though Marshall’s dominant Division I-AA and MAC days are long gone, the Thundering Herd are still capable of competing with the big boys and pulling off an occasional upset.

Ohio State football is a heavy favorite against the Marshall Thundering Herd as the Buckeyes are favored in most sportsbooks by 40-points. That number has stayed at that point throughout the week, but the point total has made a slight adjustment.

The 2025 meeting between the teams will be the 22nd all-time meeting between the programs and the first since the start of the 2020 season when they met in the opener, a game Marshall won 59-0.

Ohio State football enters Week 4 as a massive favorite against Marshall. Ohio State covered its 38.5-point spread in its last game, a 56-0 win over Western Michigan. The Buckeyes failed to cover the 48.

Ohio State and Marshall have met twice on the gridiron. The Thundering Herd came into the Horseshoe 20 years ago and gave the Buckeyes quite a scare, but the leg of Mike Nugent saved the day. Marshall also visited Columbus in 2010 and Ohio State won 45-7, but that game was part of the vacated season after the ‘tattoogate’ scandal.
