The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has acquired centre Nicolas Roy from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for forward Mitch Marner. Roy, 28, skated in 71 games with Vegas in 2024-25,

TORONTO — The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Mitch Marner to the Vegas Golden Knights for centre Nicolas Roy. Marner, 28, agreed to an eight-year, US$96-million extension with Toronto before the deal. He would have only been able to sign a seven-year contract on the NHL's open market had he hit unrestricted free agency at noon ET today.

Though there was not yet an official announcement from the Maple Leafs or the Golden Knights, there were various reports that Marner, in an sign-and-trade with Vegas, is now a member of the Western Conference club on an eight-year contract with an average annual value of $12 million US.
