Halifax Regional Police say a father and daughter were fatally shot on New Year's Eve in what is believed to be an incident of intimate partner violence, hours before the suspect was also found dead.

Halifax police are investigating three deaths that are connected – two of which they say were homicides resulting from intimate partner violence – in the city on New Year’s Eve.

The victims have been identified as Cora-Lee Smith, 40, and her father Bradford Downey, 73. Police say Matthew Costain, who was in a relationship with Smith, was later found dead.
