PAWLET, Vt. — Police on Friday arrested a 23-year-old man with a history of mental health issues in the shooting deaths of his father, stepmother, and stepbrother, a crime that has badly shaken this small town in western Vermont.

A New York man has been arrested and charged for the murders of his father, stepmother and 13-year-old stepbrother in Vermont, state police said.

The deaths have been ruled as homicides, per police. The couple died from gunshot wounds to the head and Taft died after being shot multiple times, the medical examiner determined, per the statement. Brian was also shot in the torso.

Brian Crossman Jr., 23, of Granville, New York, faces three counts of aggravated murder in the fatal shootings of his father, stepmother and stepbrother on Sept. 15.

The suspect, who relatives said had mental health disabilities, was spending the weekend with his father and stepmother while his mother was out of town, according to police.

Brian Crossman Sr., 46, his wife Erica (Pawlusiak) Crossman, 41, and Erica’s son and Brian’s stepson, Colin Taft, 13, were found dead in their Pawlet, Vt., home early morning on Sunday, Sep. 15, the Vermont State Police said in a statement earlier this week.

PAWLET, VT (WRGB) — Funeral services are being planned for a Vermont man killed at the hands of his son last weekend. Calling hours for 46-year-old Brian Crossman Sr will be held on Friday, September 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Ducharme Funeral Home. Services will be private, and the family has requested that flowers be omitted.
