Turkey was offered partner country status by the BRICS group of nations, Trade Minister Omer Bolat said, as Ankara continues what it calls its efforts to balance its Eastern and Western ties.

The offer comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a BRICS summit in Kazan, hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscoring Ankara’s aspirations for deeper engagement with the group.

Turkey was offered to become a partner country from the BRICS organization, which might affect its relations with NATO. According to Business Insider, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat confirmed that Turkey has been offered a partnership with the BRICS group.

Joining BRICS would be a valuable gain for Turkey, enhancing our cooperation with major global entities,” Trade Minister Bolat has said.
