A 21-year-old Toledo man died in a logging accident near Morton Monday, just two months before he and his fiancee were expecting the birth of their first child.

An 18-year-old Winlock man died in a logging accident Wednesday morning after he was crushed by a skyline logging carriage southwest of Chehalis, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ground-based logging, skyline logging and hauling activities are occurring in a confined area, which poses safety hazards, according to Joan Louie, a spokesperson for the U.S. Forest Service.

The decision, released this week, calls for logging of dead trees on 2,767 acres - about 11 percent of the burned area - through a combination of skyline, tractor and helicopter logging.
