A wildfire burning in Shasta County has torched nearly 3,000 acres and prompted evacuations since it began last week and the smoke was blanketing parts of the Sacramento Valley Sunday.

There is a slight chance of rain Tuesday night, but the weather service has issued a fire weather watch that will take effect later this week.

Shoe Fire initially started 1:18 p.m. Oct. 9 in Shasta County. Since its discovery four days ago, it has burned 2,998 acres. By Sunday evening, a crew of 485 firefighters effectively contained 7% of the fire. It is believed that human activity is responsible for this wildfire, although the specific action that sparked it remains unknown.
