The Trump administration stopped State Department funding for scholarships like the Fulbright. Weeks later, it is still unclear when it may resume.

As a result of an extended freeze on grants for study abroad programs, some students told Skift that they are feeling stranded and confused.

Marina Porto is a graduate student from Colombia studying public affairs at University of Missouri, and she is one year in to a two-year program as a Fulbright Scholar. She said she is unsure how she'll be able to stay as an MU student next year because of recent cuts to stipends.

The funding freeze has sparked panic among thousands of scholars who area stranded outside their home countries without clarity on the future of their programs or the money needed to support themselves.
