Neil McDonald, Malmark's director of sales and marketing, says that the company often works with musical therapists who use handbells or, more frequently, hand chimes with their patients.

Handbells are small bells designed to be rung by hand and are tuned to different notes. Bells of the Rockies handbell group will bring its holiday concert to Rialto today.

Handbells usually come in a three-octave set, Rosene said, although four or five octaves can be obtained. Each ensemble includes 12 to 16 people, with some responsible for ringing more than one bell.

A choir leader from Abbotsford, B.C., set a world record Wednesday morning by playing musical handbells for 24 hours straight.
