A 12-year-old boy with a love of trains was invited to ride in the driver's cab after a chance meeting with a railway boss.

The train ride — a one-eighth scale model of a diesel engine — first arrived at Descanso Gardens as a seasonal attraction in the 1980s, and became a permanent feature in 1996.

The footage, released by LNER, was filmed from the cab of a hi-tech Azuma train between Carrbridge and Edinburgh - the most severely graded line on the UK railway network.
