HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- Today marks the 125th anniversary of Herrin becoming a city. To celebrate, a ceremonial tree planting was held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, Illinois.

The award-winning festival honors the town's past while creating new traditions. Starting in 1991, the festival has brought out countless visitors to celebrate Herrin's rich Italian heritage.
