But the Farmers' Almanac team tells us other cultures have had different names for February’s Snow Moon over the generations. Some of these include: The Oneida tribe of upstate New York and the Great Lakes region call this the “Midwinter Moon.” The Comanche tribe of the southern Plains call it the “Sleet Moon.”

This week’s Snow Moon, the second full moon of the winter, will appear appropriately colored in red and orange for the Valentine’s Day holiday. And the romantic lunar event will illuminate the sky for three days, starting tonight.
