City leaders are calling it unacceptable. On Wednesday, Detroit Fire Department members displayed a vandalized hydrant where thieves removed the brass stem inside.

DFD Second Deputy Commissioner Derek Hillman said that without the extra support the impact would be felt “across the board” for the city’s most urgent emergency calls.
