EVERETT — Boeing officials celebrated the start of production of its delayed 777X-8 freighter Monday, holding a ceremony at the company’s Composite Wing Center in Everett.

Boeing Co said it would locate a new factory for building the wings of its forthcoming 777X jet in Everett, Washington, where it currently builds 777 jetliners.

Boeing has proposed building a 1.2 million square-foot factory to house production of the 777X wing. "The composite wing is the wave of the future," said Renton Mayor Denis Law.

Boeing has started work on the initial 777-8 Freighter test aircraft, drilling the first hole into a wing spar as it works towards delivery of the lead aircraft in 2028.
