Amazon.com Inc. is raising pay for fulfillment and transportation workers by $1.50 an hour starting this month, raising the base wage to more than $22 an hour, or $3,000 a year on average for full-time employees who work a 40-hour week.

Amazon recently announced pay raises for thousands of its employees in Tennessee, including those at the new Knoxville warehouse and the high-tech fulfillment center in Alcoa. The company is increasing hourly wages for its warehouse and delivery workers as part of a broader effort to improve pay nationwide.

The warehouse will close Oct. 30, according to a notice filed with the state Employment Development Department.
