Texas this year has been the center of the nation's largest measles outbreak in more than two decades, as a mostly eradicated disease has sickened more than 700 in the state, sent dozens to hospitals and led to the death of two children who were unvaccinated.

There are nine new cases reported in the state since Friday that are not connected to the West Texas outbreak.

Last Thursday, state and local officials confirmed a measles case in Brewster County. That was the first reported case to appear in the Big Bend region since a measles outbreak began earlier this year in West Texas near the New Mexico border. The DSHS said that the case was directly linked to the ongoing outbreak.
