Mid-May is living up to its reputation for severe weather as an active weather pattern brings the threat of strong tornadoes, damaging hail and intense, destructive wind gusts over multiple days.

Authorities say nine people are dead after a tornado touched down and sparked a “mass casualty event” in southeastern Kentucky. Sheriff John Root said there were also severe injuries when the tornado tore across Laurel County in late Friday.
