A police officer who was seriously injured responding to a call in South Phoenix on Tuesday night is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday night, according to a Phoenix police statement Wednesday morning.

As officers attempted to take a woman into custody, other family members reportedly began to assault the officers.

This is at least the 15th fatal shooting by Phoenix police this year, according to data compiled by The Arizona Republic.

PHOENIX - Police are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a teen near 52nd Avenue and McDowell Road on December 23.
