Hezbollah has pounded northern Israel with 140 rockets, a day after the militant group’s leader vowed to retaliate against Israel for a mass bombing attack, the Israeli military and the militant group said.

Israel says it has carried out an airstrike that killed a senior Hezbollah military official in a densely populated southern neighborhood of the Lebanese capital.

An Israeli airstrike hit Beirut on Friday, killing at least eight people and wounding nearly 60 others, Lebanese health officials said. The strike, the first such Israeli attack on Lebanon’s capital in months, came shortly after Hezbollah pounded northern Israel with 140 rockets.
