Firefighters were putting out hotspots at the scene of a massive building fire in Harlem Thursday morning that they had battled through the night.

A teenager horsing around with a friend in Queens was impaled when he stumbled into a wrought iron fence — and then freed by a quick-thinking group of New York’s bravest before being rushed to the hospital,

First responders used bandages to wrap the fence to the teen's leg, and then onto the backboard, the FDNY said. Officials credited the boy with staying calm throughout the 10-minute process of getting him free, saying it made rescuers' jobs that much easier.
