Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has announced a new unit that is the first of its kind. On Nov. 12, Raoul announced the creation of the first-ever Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) within the Attorney General’s office.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois launched its first-ever Conviction Integrity Unit to fight back against wrongful convictions. Attorney General Kwame Raoul was joined by several county state's attorneys, including Cook County State's Attorney-elect Eileen O'Neil Burke and DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin.

The new Conviction Integrity Unit will primarily help state’s attorneys in counties that do not already have offices to investigate potential wrongful convictions.
