The Randolph County location has rolling hills, glacial features, and the Cabin Creek Raised Bog. Farmland was platted in 1852 when the railroad was extended to that point. The town most likely was so named on account of their fertile soil. A post office has been in operation at Farmland since 1853. Farmland was incorporated as a town in 1867.
