Hi, we'd like to do the helicopter trip but we're a bit worried about one point. We'd come in September and the weather might be cloudy. How does it work when the weather is bad? We don't mind rain but clouds would be annoying to enjoy the views. Do you cancel flights when there's no visibility? If so, is it delayed to the following day? Thanks, G

You might need to contact the operater. We found when booking tours in New Zealand we were always promptly contacted if something was not going to go ahead due to bad weather. I believe they will try and get you on the next available flight. When we went last year we tried to book a couple of days accommodation in the area of the tour operator for the big experiences that we did not want to miss out on.. That way if it was canceled we could be flexible in rescheduling. Book the helicopter, it is truly amazing!

Hi, great review you gave. Can you provide some suggestions? We will spend 14 days in South New Zealand....plan to rent a car and try to see as much as we can without driving every day......we are in our 60's, like to walk, eat and visit new places. We will be in New Zealand in the month of October...appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks, George

I agree with David N's itinerary. The time you arrive in ? Christchurch will dictate how far you go on the first day. It's a 5 hr trip to Mt Cook, but there are some lovely places es to stop on the way - Tekapo, and stop to look across Lake Pukaki to Mt Cook - weather dependant. 3 nights at Mt Cook- the information centre will provide maps and things to do. Then onto Queenstown where there are numerous activities- bunny jumping, cruise on the steamship Earnslaw, luge parasailing etc. from there to Te Anau when a tour of Doubtful Sound and the Manapouri Dam is fantastic. The sound is one of the most pristine environments in New Zealand. Then head back north stopping in lovely Wanaka - less commercial than Queenstown with many walks of different levels - the info centre will again help out. Head over the Haast pass and meander North. Time will dictate whether you head towards via Arthur's pass or Lewis pass. If you are into motor racing the world marathon jet boats will be racing from the 14th October in Christchurch and Wanaka area.
