Through the Caspian Depression, the Kuma river forms Kalmykia's natural border with Dagestan. Kalmykia is the only polity within Europe where the Dharmic religion of Buddhism is the predominant religion whose only main form is Tibetan Buddhism of Gelug and Kagyu lineages.
